In 1990, Tacoma’s Bobby G dropped his debut single “Jam Do The Electric Slide” on cassette and twelve inch. “Lollipop Girl” in 1992 is his second release and came in both formats as well. There are three love songs on this one, it seems Bobby G found his lane and he stuck to it.

Starting the A side is the six minute long “Lollipop Girl.” A slow, romantic synthy beat pushes the track along at an easy pace. Bobby G sings several verses about his perfect girl while a woman’s voice giggles in the background. At about three minutes in, there is a short, earnest rap by Harold “Video Villain” Johnson. His perfect match is described as, “Sugar and spice, everything nice, she makes my heart melt like ice.” According to the credits, another rapper named MC Psycho appears on the full LP but not on this single.

Next is “Just Me And You,” a straight-ahead New Jack Swing track in the style of New Edition. Bobby G sings more verses about being in love, practically begging the girl to get together with him. “Sweeter Than Candy” is the B side, and has almost the exact same beat as “Just Me And You.” This one has a rap in the middle too. “I need a woman to treat me right, not the kind of female to argue and fight,” rhymes Video Villain.
